The 979 features a combination of Varian’s latest-generation electronics architecture with a unique multi-flow vacuum system, resulting in a very flexible but easy-to-use compact leak detector with extra-high sensitivity and pressure tolerance.

Usable in both evacuation mode and sniff-testing mode, the Model 979 is easy to use, thanks to a push-button front panel, which contains main leak-rate and pressure displays, dedicated operation buttons, and a touch-screen for setup and status readouts. The core machine is maintenance-free and features extensive protection from air inrushes, power failures, and possible operator errors.

Use of a large external primary pump results in fast pump-down times, while high test-port pressure tolerance reduces time required to reach test mode. Fully automated tuning, calibration (to NIST-traceable standard), and zeroing reduces likelihood of operator error and the Auto-Zero feature guarantees accurate measurements even in environments where the helium background is changing.
